JANET ARCHIBALD is an award winning artist. Her favorite mediums are oil,
watercolor, acrylic, pencil and collage. She has also experimented in wood
sculpture, producing two sculptures sold during KCOS Art Days 2007. Her oil
portraits and watercolors are in private collections in California, Arizona and
Texas. She has participated in local shows, including Arts International since
2005. She is a member of the
El Paso Art Association and edits their
newsletter, as well as being a member of Rio Bravo Watercolorists. She has
studied with Catherine Kistenmacher, Ruben Rodarte and Marci Boone.
Janet always had a fascination with drawing. As an
elementary school child, she made up her own series of graphic stories based on
the adventures of her family’s toy poodle. Her favorite undergraduate class was
a ceramics course in which the instructor exhorted her to ‘act like she was a
savage living in a hut.’ Given that guidance, she produced a 3 foot statue that
her father dubbed ‘Imhotep.’ The statue is in a private collection in Green
Valley, AZ.
Janet is always looking for ‘happy accidents’ in her
artwork and experimenting with new techniques. Currently, she is focusing on
portraits in oil paints. She finds inspiration in nature and in ‘playing with
paint.’
Janet has a B.S. in Chemistry from SUNY at Brockport and
an M.S. in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Janet has
been a licensed pilot since 1983 and currently holds an ATP with DHC-8 type
rating, as well as a CFI/I and MEI. She has been an Army Commissioned Officer
and helicopter pilot, commercial airline pilot, engineer and small business
owner (flight school).
